A timeline of Victorian history
Discover the rich history of 41 St Andrews Place, East Melbourne, a landmark that has served the Victorian government and community for over a century and a half.
1856 - 1961: The Victorian Government Printer's Office
Designed by renowned Melbourne architect J.J. Clark, this heritage-listed building was the first in the Treasury Reserve Precinct. For over 100 years, it was the official Government Printer's Office, responsible for publishing government documents and materials.
1961 - 2021: Home to Government officials
After the Printer's Office relocated, the site became a home for various government departments and officials, including the Governor of Victoria, the Treasurer, and the Registrar of the Supreme Court. The building underwent several alterations and additions to accommodate its new tenants.
2021 Onwards: The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership
In 2021, a new chapter began. The building was sensitively restored and transformed into an inspiring, modern hub for the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Launched in January 2022, the Academy provides high-quality professional development for Victorian teachers and school leaders across its two inner-city sites and seven regional centres.
