Expert Teacher in Residence Expressions of Interest

Are you a highly skilled teacher? Do you know a highly skilled teacher?

An exciting opportunity exists to play an important role as an Expert Teacher in Residence in the Teaching Excellence Program to be delivered by the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership in 2025.

Alternatively, you might like to share this opportunity with a highly skilled teacher and encourage them to apply.

The Academy is a statutory authority delivering an Australian-first program of advanced professional learning for highly skilled teachers in government, Catholic and Independent schools. The Academy is based in a purpose-designed CBD site, as well as across 7 regional centres (Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Moe, and Shepparton).

The Teaching Excellence Program (TEP) is the Academy's flagship professional learning program for highly skilled teachers from government, Catholic and Independent sectors.

Critical to the success of the TEP is the attraction and recruitment of highly skilled and motivated Expert Teachers who will facilitate and co-design the discipline-focused and place-based application of the learning that lies at the centre of the TEP.

Currently, these roles are known as ‘Master Teachers in Residence’ but from 2025 onwards will be Expert Teachers in Residence.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from outstanding educators to work as Expert Teachers in Residence with the Academy for 12 months.

Expert Teachers in Residence will be recognised as leading teachers-in-residence in one or more of the discipline areas that are at the core of the TEP.

Ideally, they will have an established track record as an outstanding facilitator of professional learning, practitioner inquiry, and experience in sustaining professional learning communities within a range of school contexts.

They will have the capacity to deliver the following accountabilities to the highest level:

  • Work as part of a team to co-design, facilitate, and lead professional learning in one of the discipline areas within the TEP.
  • Support TEP teachers through individual and collective extended practitioner inquiry-focused action-research projects.
  • Leading TEP teachers in place-based teaching excellence learning communities
  • Represent the Academy with distinction.

The role will be suited to discipline and pedagogical experts with deep knowledge and skills in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • The Arts
  • English
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Humanities
  • Languages
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Technologies.

These positions are open to applicants from educators working in the government, Catholic and Independent sectors. The location of these positions will be Melbourne CBD and across the Academy’s regional centres. Regional and remote work (or similar) is an essential part of the delivery of TEP.

Ideally, applicants should have some experience in the facilitation and co-design of evidence-informed professional learning programs in at least one discipline. They should be able to demonstrate deep, evidence-informed learning area knowledge in the teaching and learning of their discipline. They should also demonstrate the capacity to work as part of a high-performing team to foster a deep commitment to raising the quality and status of teaching.

The selection criteria include:

  1. Demonstrated educational leadership
  2. Demonstrated resource, managerial and administrative ability
  3. Demonstrated experience of planning, policy and program development and review
  4. Specialist expertise for program development
