Feedback with impact: lessons from professional sports

Hear from Dr Rob Mason, an expert in athlete learning and Coach Development Manager at the Port Adelaide Football Club. He'll reveal how coaches use high-impact feedback strategies to hone performance and share his insights as a teacher, academic, and coach educator.

Dr Rob Mason
Coach Development Manager at the Port Adelaide Football ClubRob consults to high performance sporting organisations around the world on the topics of learning, communication, and feedback. He is currently the Coach Development Manager at the Port Adelaide Football Club, where he oversees the development of coaches and football department staff. Other recent clients have included: The Premier League (UK), the Australian Football League, UK Coaching, Carlton Football Club, Irish Rugby, the West Australian Institute of Sport, and British Gymnastics. Rob holds a PhD in sport coaching from the University of Melbourne, along with a Masters in Teaching and Honours in Psychology. His research on high-impact feedback strategies has been published internationally in academic journals.

Dr Brendan Jackson
Expert Teacher in Residence for Health and Physical EducationBrendan is a current Expert Teacher in Residence for Health and Physical Education, having completed a Doctor of Education focusing on the applicability of feedback and metacognition in a professional sporting environment. Brendan has over 10 years of experience in secondary school education, including leading the development of STEM education programs within schools, and has held various positions of leadership within schools.

Jemma Tresise
Expert Teacher in Residence for Health and Physical EducationJemma is a primary trained educator with 16 years’ experience from Foundation to Year 6. She is currently an Expert Teacher in Residence for Health and Physical Education and Primary English discipline. Jemma previously worked in the School Improvement Workforce for the North-East Victoria Region, where she found her passion for working with educators to improve their teaching practices. Working alongside school leadership teams to drive school improvement resulted in her pursuing a Masters of Instructional Leadership at the University of Melbourne. Jemma speaks highly of her own experience as a participant in the Teaching Excellence Program in 2022.

- pedagogy.
2025 Teaching Excellence Talks include:
- 1 hour online sessions
- subject matter expert led presentations and conversations
- audience engagement via breakout rooms and/or question and answer sessions.
