About the program

Gain the skills, knowledge and dispositions required to facilitate Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice.

This program will support you to:

  • deepen your knowledge of the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum (F-10), effective mathematics practices, and relevant department frameworks
  • build the capability of teachers and leaders to embed the VTLM 2.0 and the Mathematics Position Statement in their practice
  • impact student learning outcomes across Victoria by advancing teaching practice and building the collective capacity of educators.

New facilitators are required to complete the Academy Facilitator Program prior to undertaking this professional learning.

Brendan Lee

Educational consultant

Brendan Lee is a seasoned primary school leader and educational consultant dedicated to bridging the gap between educational research and classroom practice. After a brief hiatus from teaching to run a café, Brendan returned to the profession with a mission: to define the "science of maths" as clearly as the science of reading. A collaborator with AERO, CIS, and the Grattan Institute, Brendan also serves on the Board for Ochre Education. Through professional learning, his blog, Learn with Lee, and the Knowledge for Teachers podcast, he champions evidence-based education and shares key principles that can transform teaching practices.

Roles

Designed for primary and secondary educators with experience in leading improved mathematics practice and outcomes. This includes:

  • principals
  • assistant principals
  • leading teachers
  • learning specialists
  • experienced mathematics teachers
  • mathematics or other curriculum leaders.

Regional improvement staff, including Education Improvement Leaders, are also encouraged to apply.

School sectors

This program is available to the following school sectors:

  • Victorian Government
  • Catholic
  • independent.

Structure

Delivery

Over 6-8 months, you will engage in and contribute to:

  • 3 workshops (approximately 18 hours) on content and pedagogical knowledge, leadership skills and dispositions required to facilitate Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice
  • self-paced learning
  • end of year facilitator symposium.

Facilitators are expected to facilitate at least one intake of the Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice program in the year of completion.

Applicants are required to complete the Academy Facilitator Program prior to undertaking this professional learning.

Acceptance into Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice: Facilitator Program is dependent on a selection process.
