    Overview

    Gain the skills, knowledge and dispositions required to facilitate Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice.

    This program will support you to:

    • deepen your knowledge of the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum (F-10), effective mathematics practices, and relevant department frameworks
    • build the capability of teachers and leaders to embed the VTLM 2.0 and the Mathematics Position Statement in their practice
    • impact student learning outcomes across Victoria by advancing teaching practice and building the collective capacity of educators.

    Audience

    Roles

    Designed for primary and secondary educators with experience in leading improved mathematics practice and outcomes. Participants must also have completed the Academy Facilitator Program.

    This includes:

    • principals
    • assistant principals
    • leading teachers
    • learning specialists
    • experienced mathematics teachers
    • mathematics or other curriculum leaders.

    Regional improvement staff, including Education Improvement Leaders, are also encouraged to apply.

    School sectors

    This program is available to the following school sectors:

    • Victorian government
    • Catholic
    • independent.

    This program contains information aligned with Department of Education priorities or initiatives.


    Facilitators

    This program is delivered by Academy staff who have significant mathematics experience.


    Structure of program

    New facilitators are required to complete the Academy Facilitator Program prior to undertaking this professional learning. 

    Over 6-8 months, you will engage in and contribute to:

    • 3 workshops (approximately 18 hours) on content and pedagogical knowledge, leadership skills and dispositions required to facilitate Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice
    • self-paced learning
    • end of year facilitator symposium.

    Facilitators are expected to facilitate at least one intake of the Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice program in the year of completion.


    Completion requirements

    To successfully complete this program, you need to:

    • attend and participate in all workshops
    • complete all required pre- and post-workshop activities
    • facilitate one intake of Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice.

    Application process

    Acceptance into Mathematics Pedagogy and Practice: Facilitator Program is dependent on a selection process.

    New facilitators are also required to complete the Academy Facilitator Program.

    As part of the application process, you will be required to obtain endorsement from your principal, manager or senior education improvement leader and provide their contact details when applying.
