Thought Leadership Series: Climate Action Education

Academy Alumni presents Climate Action Education, a discussion on how to support students by preparing them for the challenges of, and opportunities to respond to, climate change.  

While many young people care passionately about the environment, the recent energy crisis and global instability have thrust these issues into the spotlight. Schools have an important role to play in empowering students to think critically about the environment and responsibilities of global citizenship.

• Proactive socio-ecological strategies: Take a confident approach to teaching about climate challenges.  
• Evidence-based practice: See examples of embedding environmental sustainability as a cross-curriculum priority from primary and secondary school settings.
• Classroom resources: Access practical strategies and tools to engage students with meaningful actions and outcomes. 

Associate Professor Peta White

Peta is an Associate Professor in Science and Environmental Education at Deakin University. She is the Co-director of the Regenerating Futures Faculty Research Group, a transdisciplinary collective attending to Anthropocene challenges and decolonising practices while also building researcher capacity. She is the Editor-In-Chief of the Australian Journal of Environmental Education (Q1 – Web of Science), led the OECD PISA 2025 Science Framework’s environmental science contribution ‘Agency in the Anthropocene’ and is active in climate change education research and advocacy. Peta’s research leadership has three narratives: science and biology education; sustainability, environmental and climate change education; and collaborative/activist embodied methodologies.
