About the program

Put the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0 into practice with teaching strategies you can take straight back to your classroom. This one-day workshop, led by Bron Ryrie-Jones, focuses on the practical detail of how students practise, respond to and correct errors.

Combining clear information with specific strategies, this workshop supports you to plan and adjust your practice with confidence. You'll learn to decide when to use massed, spaced and interleaved practice, plan opportunities for students to respond and strengthen how you correct errors in real time and over time.

What you'll learn

  • Differentiate principles of learning from effective teaching practices. Identify key learning principles and explain how they inform teaching decisions.
  • Apply the instructional hierarchy to plan effective practice. Explain when massed, spaced and interleaved practice are most appropriate, and understand the role of massed practice in building fluency before retrieval practice.
  • Design and evaluate opportunities to respond. Calculate opportunities to respond within a lesson and plan purposeful opportunities that support student learning.
  • Implement high-quality error correction practices. Respond to student errors effectively in both the short and long term.
