Literacy Pedagogy and Practice

    Drawing on evidence-informed pedagogical and curriculum frameworks and research, this program will support you to embed the VTLM 2.0 within your practice to improve literacy outcomes for students.

    The program will develop your knowledge of:

    • Victoria’s approach to the teaching of reading
    • the English 2.0 curriculum (F-10)
    • the use of Systematic Synthetic Phonics (through the Department’s Phonics Plus resources)
    • structured literacy approaches
    • the ‘Big 6’.

    You will build your capability to implement practices that enact explicit and high-impact literacy teaching, whether as an individual participant or part of a small school-based group.

    The program provides an opportunity to collaborate with peers and learn with a network of colleagues through an area-based delivery model.

    Roles

    Designed for primary and secondary school teachers who wish to improve their practice and increase their impact on student learning outcomes.

    School sectors

    This program is available to the following school sectors:

    • Victorian government
    • Catholic
    • independent.

    Some content may contain information aligned with Department of Education priorities or initiatives.


    Facilitators

    The program is delivered by local facilitators who have completed Literacy Pedagogy and Practice: Facilitator Program.

    Literacy Pedagogy and Practice is designed by subject matter experts at the Academy, including Principals in Residence and Expert Teachers in Residence.


    Structure of program

    Over 5 months, you will engage in and contribute to:

    • 5 face-to-face workshops (9:00 am – 3:30 pm)
    • asynchronous learning.

    Completion requirements

    To successfully complete this program and receive a certificate of completion, you need to: 

    • attend and participate in all workshops  
    • complete all required pre- and post-workshop activities.

    Fees and financial support

    We significantly subsidise costs for all participants.

    Additional financial support for government schools

    Victorian school participants may be eligible for additional subsidies.
