About the program

Drawing on evidence-informed pedagogical and curriculum frameworks and research, this program will support you to embed the VTLM 2.0 within your practice to improve literacy outcomes for students. You will build your capability to implement practices that enact explicit and high-impact literacy teaching, whether as an individual participant or part of a small school-based group.

The program provides an opportunity to collaborate with peers and learn with a network of colleagues through an area-based delivery model.

What you'll learn

  • Master structured literacy approaches. Apply evidence-informed methods for teaching reading and writing to ensure students develop foundational skills for academic success.
  • Implement systematic synthetic phonics. Use the Phonics Plus suite to deliver direct instruction that helps students decode words accurately and build fluency.
  • Apply the ‘Big 6’ framework. Integrate the six pillars of reading to create a comprehensive, high-impact literacy program for all students.
  • Make connections to the English 2.0 curriculum. Align classroom planning with the latest Victorian standards to provide a consistent, high-quality learning experience.
  • Lead explicit literacy practices. Use VTLM 2.0 high-impact strategies to deliver direct-instruction lessons that result in measurable student outcomes. 

Expert facilitators

The program is delivered by local facilitators who have completed Literacy Pedagogy and Practice: Facilitator Program.

Literacy Pedagogy and Practice is designed by subject matter experts at the Academy, including Principals in Residence and Expert Teachers in Residence.

Structure

Delivery

Over 5 months, you will engage in and contribute to:

  • 5 face-to-face workshops (9:00 am – 3:30 pm)
  • asynchronous learning.

Completion requirements

To successfully complete this program and receive a certificate of completion, you need to: 

  • attend and participate in all workshops  
  • complete all required pre- and post-workshop activities.
