Bring a team around developing a school-wide mathematic improvement strategy.

Leading Mathematics supports your school team to investigate, analyse and strengthen current approaches to mathematics learning, teaching and leadership at the classroom, team and school-wide levels.

As a team, you will develop your ability to lead in-school investigations and professional learning and gain a greater understanding of contemporary research and approaches to highly effective mathematics teaching and learning.

Your team will collect and analyse a range of different evidence types, experiment with your practices and meet regularly to discuss insights and team learning. These efforts will inform the development of a school-wide, long-term mathematics improvement strategy and the kinds of practices needed for sustainable cultural and practical change.

Leading Mathematics is an in demand program, register as soon as possible to secure your preferred start date. See the Application process below for details about our upcoming orientation session.

Audience

Designed for Victorian government school teams of 3 people, comprising:

  • 1 principal-class leader committed to progressing their own learning as well as supporting the learning of the team. This participant will ensure that an evidence-informed, whole-school approach to change is developed and provide the support and means to enact it.
  • 1 numeracy or mathematics leader or learning specialist who has leadership responsibilities for maths or numeracy learning or leads a maths-focused team. This person should be enthusiastic about embracing and bringing about positive change in mathematics practice.
  • 1 classroom-based teacher who is willing and keen to investigate, learn and further develop their mathematics practice and generate evidence of student learning that can be used to inspire their colleagues. This participant will provide leaders with valuable insights into classroom and teacher learning as well as perspectives on what teachers need from leaders.

This team structure supports a whole-school approach to leading mathematics improvement in your school context.

Before applying, your team should review the course structure to ensure each team member can commit to the significant course load over the 9 months.

Facilitators

Leading Mathematics is facilitated by Tony Flack, Peter Burrows, Michaela Epstein, Larissa Raymond and Kathy Winton, highly respected and experienced practitioners with both academic and practical expertise.

It was developed by EdPartnerships International, an organisation that works at the forefront of educational leadership and learning excellence through partnership approaches. EdPartnerships co-designs research, evaluations, professional learning and leadership development.

Over 9 months, you will actively engage in and contribute to:
