    About the program

    Explore business-industry concepts to enhance the perception of your school through identity, brand and reputation. 

    This program empowers you to increase pride and confidence in your school across your whole community while translating your school vision for the audience. You will collaborate with peers to share ideas, solve problems and build lasting networks.

    Topics include vision and identity, marketing, communications, media, social media, publications and events. 

    What you'll learn

    • Build a clear school identity. Align your vision and values to create a consistent narrative that resonates with your local community and staff.  
    • Amplify your school’s story. Use core communication concepts and digital insights to refine your messaging and strengthen your school’s reputation.  
    • Manage media with confidence. Develop practical skills to navigate challenging local issues and share positive success stories to your school’s advantage.  
    • Empower student-led pride. Partner with students to amplify their voice and agency, ensuring they help shape the school’s sense of belonging.  

    Expert facilitators

    Adam Hogan is a principal in residence at the Academy. Adam brings 11 years of principal experience, driving strong improvement and reputational change across 2 large secondary colleges. Adam holds a Master of Education in Leadership and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

    Amy Porter is a principal in residence at the Academy and substantive principal of Sandringham College. As a principal of a growing multi-campus school, Amy has led significant improvements turning the school around academically and culturally, developing community confidence in the school. Amy holds a Master of Education in School Leadership and has an undergraduate arts degree with a focus on media studies.

    Designed for principals who have the option to bring an additional school member such as: 

    • an assistant principal
    • a business manager
    • a SEIL or ISS leadership partner
    • a DE Education Hub project manager. 

    School sectors 

    This program is available to the following school sectors: 

    • Victorian Government
    • Catholic
    • independent. 

    Structure

    Delivery

    Over 2 weeks, you will engage in and contribute to: 

    • 2 full day workshops, one week apart
    • pre-workshop activities (approx. 30 minutes)
    • mid-workshop activities (approx. 1-2 hours)
    • implementation of a self-led post-workshop action plan. 

    Workshops 

    You will reflect on your school and build a narrative that tells a story of your vision. You will explore foundational concepts of marketing and value proposition, and how to leverage these through your communications, publications and events. 

    You will bring a critical lens to your facilities and grounds through a self-assessment and learn how to leverage media to your advantage through practical media training.

    Importantly, you will consider how student voice and agency can overlay all areas of this program to enhance your impact with students by your side. 

    Post-workshop action plan 

    You will develop an action plan that helps create a path forward as you shape your school’s image and build pride and confidence for your students in their school.

    Learning outcomes

    You’ll gain knowledge and understanding of how to: 

    • develop a clear identity for your school, aligned to vision and values
    • engage with students to help shape the vision of pride for the school
    • connect with your school community in a way that strengthens confidence
    • ensure consistent branding and messaging across the school to build pride
    • leverage media to your advantage to connect with the broader community. 

    You’ll develop the skills to: 

    • leverage core marketing concepts including creating value for stakeholders
    • review, refine and target your school communication
    • engage confidently with the media to leverage positive news stories, and how to navigate challenging issues
    • leverage social media and online data to your advantage
    • establish consistent branding, high-quality publications and systems of quality control and assurance
    • enhance the pride and confidence in your school to strengthen belonging and connectedness for students.

    Completion requirements

    To successfully complete this program, you will need to attend both workshops.
