Inspire: Local Leaders prepares you to pursue and succeed in school leadership.  

The program focuses on developing the capabilities you need to lead school improvement, effectively engage colleagues and build your professional network.    

You will explore leadership concepts and reflect on how you can achieve your personal leadership goals.  

Audience 

Designed for teachers who are highly effective in their own classrooms and are ready to take the next step in their professional journey by developing themselves as teacher leaders. 

Facilitators 

Designed and delivered by principals who have completed Inspire facilitator training.

Over 5 months you are expected to engage and contribute to: 

  • online workshops (2 full-day and 3 half-day sessions) 
  • self-directed learning (approximately 11 hours) 
  • a school improvement project.  

Online workshops 

Workshops are designed around 7 modules.  

Workshop 1: Connect and Align  

Over a full day, you will:  

  • gain a deeper understanding of the program  
  • meet fellow participants and form project groups 
  • identify an improvement opportunity for the school improvement project.  

Workshop 2: Apply 

Over a half-day, you will: 

  • explore key department frameworks and resources 
  • reflect on your leadership capabilities.  

Workshop 3: Enthuse  and Inspire 

Over a full day, you will:  

  • reflect on emotional intelligence, open communication and influencing strategies 
  • explore aspects of effective feedback.  

Workshop 4: Engage 

Over a half-day, you will:  

  • explore various leadership approaches 
  • reflect on your experiences of leadership.  

Workshop 5: Celebrate  

Over a half-day, you will: 

  • present your school improvement project 
  • reflect on your professional growth 
  • identify opportunities to sustain networks.  

Self-directed learning  

Self-directed learning activities in your own time (approximately 11 hours) include:  

  • pre-workshop reading and reflection activities 
  • collecting in-school data   
  • collaborating with your project team 
  • contributing to online discussion boards.  

School improvement project 

The school improvement project supports you to develop and action a specific teaching, learning or wellbeing improvement goal that aligns to your school’s strategic priorities and your own development.  

You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on your project for the duration of the program within a project team and present in the final workshop.    

You’ll gain knowledge and understanding of: 

  • the leadership frameworks and resources of the Department of Education
  • general leadership principles and theories  
  • emotional intelligence, open communication and influencing strategies  
  • your own personal leadership style and capabilities.  

You’ll develop the skills to:  

  • identify, plan and implement a school improvement initiative 
  • build relationships and effectively engage colleagues to achieve a specific outcome  
  • work collaboratively with a network of professional peers to support leadership development.
