Description

An exciting opportunity exists for principals and assistant principals from government, Catholic and independent schools to enhance their leadership skills, influence system coherence and develop broader policy and program experience across the education system.

Expressions of interest are invited for Principal in Residence positions at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (the Academy):

  • multiple 1.0 FTE roles commencing in the Teaching Excellence Division
  • 1 x 0.8 FTE and multiple 1.0 FTE roles commencing in the Leadership Excellence Division.

The Principal in Residence is a 12-month position with the potential for extension.

The Leadership Excellence Division delivers high quality leadership professional learning to school leaders at all levels. The professional learning portfolio managed and delivered by the division includes career pathways programs, leadership capability development programs, training programs and mentoring services. The division's leadership programs are aligned with the Academy Leadership Excellence Framework, which sets out the practices, capabilities and domains of excellence in educational leadership. The division is also responsible for implementation of the Victorian Aspiring Principal Assessment (VAPA).

The Teaching Excellence Division leads professional learning, including the Australian-first year-long Teaching Excellence Program (TEP), the Teaching Impact Fellowship, and the Academy Alumni Program. The division also leads and supports professional learning in literacy, mathematics, teaching practice and current priorities and challenges in education, while supporting leadership excellence programs. 

Both divisions also provide thought leadership, resources and insights for teachers and school leaders and support raising the status of the teaching profession. 

The Principals in Residence:

  • Develop the capability of Victorian teachers and school leaders by partnering with Academy teams and stakeholders, including across sectors, to monitor, develop, evaluate and strengthen the quality of Academy professional learning, resources, insights and guidance.
  • Support strategic and priority initiatives and implement programs and activities across the Academy to enable it to meet its legislated objectives.
  • Co-design and facilitate professional learning.
  • Provide a conduit between the Academy, the Catholic and independent sectors and government Areas and Principal Networks across the state Principals in Residence work collaboratively across the Academy and may be assigned to different divisions during their tenure.

The role includes fostering and facilitating effective internal and external stakeholder relationships, contributing to cross-agency and sector collaboration, and providing expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape teacher, Principal and school leadership programs.

Please note:

Government school staff: these positions are Teaching Service positions, remunerated as per the Principal Class range (see fact sheet document for further details).

Catholic and independent school staff: these positions will be offered as a secondment consistent with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Academy and the substantive employer.
