Become a Mentor Principal

Play a critical role in preparing and supporting aspiring principals by becoming a mentor.

The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is seeking expressions of interest from principals with a desire to mentor aspiring principals as part of our flagship Unlocking Potential: Principal Preparation program.

Mentor principals play a critical role in preparing and supporting aspiring principals by providing on the job experience, and advice and guidance on dealing with complex, and day-to-day, situations.

As a mentor, you will host an aspiring principal in your school for up to 20 days. Over this time, you will provide insights into the practical aspects of the principal role, as well as support them to engage with new techniques and approaches they have learnt during Unlocking Potential: Principal Preparation.

Mentor requirements

To be considered for the role, you will need:

  • 3 or more years in a principal role
  • experience developing leaders in your school
  • a keen interest in building your system leadership capabilities.

You are carefully matched with aspiring principals based on individual needs, location, and school contexts.
