Thinking Ahead: Future Focused Leadership
On This page

Thought leader Valerie Hannon offers five ‘signposts’ that allow busy leaders, challenged by the immediate operational demands of school leadership, to see above those demands and to rethink schooling in a future focused way.

Be inspired by ideas, case studies, tools and frameworks that will allow you to raise your sights to explore the conditions and demands of the future that will impact your learners.

Throughout the 3 workshops – offered online to allow for flexible learning access – you will be able to apply what you have learned in a practical way through individual and collaborative activities to enable you to become a leader of a ‘future-fit’ school.

    Audience

Designed for Victorian government school principals, including executive class principals, who have the option to participate with their assistant principals and leadership team, learning specialists and leading teachers.

    • 3 online workshops (6 hours)
    • self-directed learning (2 hours)

    Online workshops

Online workshops are delivered over 3, two-hour sessions. Workshops are an opportunity to deep dive into key themes of the program.

Workshop 1: 5-signposts and the New Education Narrative

Workshop 2: Equity and Futures Literacy

You will develop an understanding of how equity is fundamental to thriving and the essential role of school leaders as advocates for diversity and inclusion. Learn about futures literacy and ways thinking that help you future-proof and make your school ‘future-fit’.

    Workshop 3: Ecosystems and Innovation

You will explore the ecosystems that necessarily connect schools to community and the world and your role as a leader in creating partnerships that allow new learning opportunities and pathways for all learners. Linking to futures literacy, you will consider lessons from case studies across the globe that model necessary change and innovation in an environment of disruption. You will be supported to complete a future planning canvas to continue your response after this program ends.
