Enhance the wellbeing and engagement of your students with practical cooperative learning structures.

Cooperative Learning for Mathematics will develop your pedagogical skills in teaching mathematics.

You will be supported to maximise student engagement and create an inclusive culture in the classroom that enhances wellbeing and mathematics learning for all students.

Delivered by Kagan Australia, you will learn to implement a range of easy-to-use cooperative learning structures to organise the interactions of your students.

You will explore how to build high-quality interactions and dialogue for your students and improve their outcomes in mathematics.

Audience

Designed for Victorian government primary and secondary school teacher leaders, learning specialists, and those with a whole school or team responsibility for mathematics improvement.

Facilitator

Designed and facilitated by Robyn Cragg, Director of Kagan Australia Teacher Professional Learning, one of the largest educational training companies in the world.

Robyn’s career in education includes being an inspector of schools, director of schools, and 20 years as a principal in disadvantaged schools. 

Her strong knowledge background, experience, enthusiasm and passion are evident in her training sessions, which she has delivered to thousands of teachers and school leaders and coaching in the classroom.

Primary intake

Online workshops are delivered over three, 2-hour sessions.

Enhance student agency and cultivate an inclusive learning culture in your classroom of high trust and individual accountability.

You will spend time in breakout sessions learning to use Kagan structures to build students’ confidence in mathematics and time to share with the wider group to collectively problem solve and share practice.

Secondary intake

Online workshops are delivered over two, 3-hour sessions.

Implement Kagan cooperative learning structures for teaching algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus and enhance mathematics mastery in your teaching practice.

You will learn to apply essential cooperative management strategies for a smooth-running classroom and increased student engagement and wellbeing. 

You will spend time in breakout sessions as well as with the wider group to explore how to build collective efficacy for your students and your school.

Primary intake

You will learn to use specific cooperative learning structures to:

  • cater for a range of levels of understanding
  • actively involve students in their own learning of maths and numeracy concepts
  • enhance mathematical communication
  • provide frequent and immediate feedback
  • promote sharing of problem-solving strategies and thinking in teams
  • scaffold learning with a variety of skill practice structures
  • transform independent practice into engaging pair work with individual accountability
  • reach high academic standards with research-based strategies
  • build students’ confidence as learners and thinkers in mathematics
  • increase student engagement, learning and wellbeing.

Secondary intake

You will learn to use specific cooperative learning structures to:

  • teach for deeper understanding and cover your secondary maths curriculum – including algebra, calculus, trigonometry and more
  • increase learning  for every student through peer modelling and coaching
  • actively involve students in their own learning of maths concepts and skills
  • transform independent practice into high-engagement pair and teamwork, with individual accountability built-in
  • enhance mathematical communication
  • provide frequent and immediate feedback
  • promote student interaction around mathematical concepts, procedures, and problem-solving
  • cater for a range of levels of understanding.
